In mid August, 19 students and two teachers from Kumagaya Nishi High School came to James Hargest College. Although this is Kumagaya Nishi's 3rd visit to Hargest it is their first visit since the signing of the Official Sister School Agreement at a special ceremony in Kumagaya in November 2005. As Kumagaya Nishi is a senior high school, the students were an older group and were mainly based at the senior campus. 5 of the students had hosted our our students in Kumagaya in September last year and were able to meet up with their "host sibling' once again. In 2 cases they were even hosted by them and their families. It is wonderful to see this relationship between the 2 schools continually grow.
The group took part in a large number of activities at school including Canoe Polo, Cooking, Maori Tï Rakau and Pois. They went on a visit to East Road Pets and spent a day in Queenstown with the Year 10 Japanese class. In Queenstown they saw a kiwi, went up the gondolas, went luging and jet boating. It was great to have the teachers so involved in everything and so keen to make the trip a success. The ‘Adorable' Mrs Yamada's English was amazing and it was great to see her join ‘Give Everything A Go' Mr Osawa' on both the Luge & Jet Boat.
We look forward to visiting Kumagaya Nishi and seeing everyone again in September 2008. |
