We take pride in creating a caring, safe and orderly school environment in which students can develop as respectful and considerate citizens. It is our role to provide and encourage each student to reach their potential. Students are grouped to ensure that they are challenged and supported in their learning needs in mixed ability classes within year levels. Mathematics is an exception where students can be regrouped between core subject classes to maximise their abilities in this area. Our most able students are encouraged through extension and enrichment opportunities in our Minds Alive and Gifted and Talented programmes. Students with special needs are provided with learning support where it is required and are integrated with other students where possible. Professional development is highly valued at Hargest. Teachers are well versed with the latest techniques, skills and approaches so students have the opportunity of learning and achieving excellence. All students have many opportunities to take on leadership roles throughout their time at Hargest through sports, our house systems and councils. Senior students provide leadership to their junior counterparts through a Peer Support programme as they make the transition to the Senior Campus. Our Outdoor Education programme encourages students to learn new skills and test their boundaries in a safe and risk managed environment. The focus for students in these experiences is to encourage team skills and leadership opportunities while challenging themselves and taking responsibility for each other. Our international and exchange students are a valued part of our school community. Their involvement in a wide range of school activities exposes our students to different perspectives and enriches our cultural diversity. |
