Balanced programme offers you awide range of opportunities to develop your academic, cultural and physical abilities.

A sound foundation in literacy and numeracy
High quality programmes in literacy and numeracy are a central focus. Literacy skills are reinforced across all programmes and learning support is provided if you need extra help.

Motivated learners
We provide a student-centred programme with topics which are meaningful and relevant to you as a student. We use interactive “hands-on” learning to maximize your involvement. At James Hargest you are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for your own learning.

Development of lifelong learners
We aim to prepare you for the future, not the past. Our focus is developing high order thinking, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, communication and information skills.

The school has high expectations for academic achievement. You will be challenged to achieve to your potential through our gifted and learning support programmes.

Healthy social development
We pride ourselves on creating a caring, safe and orderly school environment in which students can develop as respectful and considerate citizens. Teachers know and care for the “whole” student and you will have the support of the college’s guidance and pastoral care systems.

We encourage participation. Results across an extensive range of competitions are quite outstanding.

Hargest students have a tradition of winning academic scholarships. Scholarships and distinctions have been evenly shared by both male and female students over a wide range of subjects.

Professional development is highly valued at Hargest. Teachers are well versed with the latest techniques, skills and approaches so students have the opportunity of learning and achieving excellence.

Learning focus in classrooms.
Teachers have established high expectations for students’ behavior and achievement. Students know that they are expected to do well. Effective classroom management, goodlesson structures and good relationships between students and teachers enable the teachersto maximize learning time.
