An outstanding number of senior students receive scholarships for tertiary study from Community funders eg: Westpac Trust, Power Net, Community Trust of Southland, New Zealand Aluminium Smelters, James Henry Scholarship, Invercargill Licensing Trust, RSA, Rotary Book Grant, Salvation Army Jeff Farm Scholarship.
We encourage participation in all competitions. Results are always outstanding. Hargest has a well established tradition of students winning academic scholarships under the old examination system and now scholarship and distinction awards with NCEA. They have been evenly shared by girls and boys over a wide range of subjects. Please check out our results on the NZQA website: www.nzqa.govt.nz. 29 scholarships were won by Hargest students in 2007, three of which were outstanding scholarships. In 2008, 20 scholarships were won by Hargest students.
Results in all senior school exams clearly indicate that the school is maintaining its long-standing tradition of academic excellence.
Excellence and Merit grades are presented in graphs 1 and 2. These grades are compared to the national and decile 8 school results. Pass rates from the externally assessed standards are illustrated in graph 3.
Students perform on average above the level of schools of similar type and decile in the National Certificate for Educational Achievement (NCEA). - ‘ERO June 2006’ |
