Previous Page | Next Page When do we start school? 2010 starting date is still to be confirmed. What time do I need to be at school? Year 7 students need to be at school by 8:50 on the first day. Year 8 students need to be at school at 9:30 on the first day. Where do I go? If you arrive early, you can wait in the hall or wait outside. We'll have an assembly for Year Seven students at 9:00 in the hall. The teachers will show you where to go. Can my parents come? Parents are very welcome to come to school with you on the first day. Some parents come to the assembly and stay until they see which class you will be in. How do I find out which class I am in? Classes will be read out at assembly. Will I be with people I know? We try to put you in a class with someone you know. We talk to the teachers at your primary school and get advice from them about who you work well with. What if I get put in a different class from my friends? It's not the end of the world if you don't end up with your friends. You will still be able to play with your friends at break times. And you will have a great opportunity to make some new friends. Will I fit in? Follow this advice and you should fit in well. "If you make it plain you like people, it's hard for them to resist liking you back." What will we be doing on the first day? You will spend the first day with your homeroom teacher, getting to know the rules and routines of the school and starting lessons. The specialist classes (Science, Music, Art and Technology) and the semi-specialist programmes (ICT, PE and Drama) will start on the second or third day. What about stationery? We send out stationery lists before the end of the year so that you can buy the stationery in the holidays and bring it to school on the first day. How will I find my way around the school? It is quite an easy place to find your way around. Your teacher will take you for a tour of the school on the first day. There is also a plan in your diary. You'll feel "at home" in no time. What is the diary? It is a booklet with lots of information about how the school works. It also has places for writing down homework and reminders. Everyone gets a school diary. What if I don't have the right uniform? Just bring a note from home to explain this. Where do I put my bike? There are bike racks at the Queen's Drive and Layard Street entrances. What about school buses? We will have a meeting on the first day to help you find out about school buses. Some students travel with their parents for the first day or two until they know where and when to catch the bus in the morning. |
