Welcome to Information Technology at James Hargest Recent Happenings: At the end of Term 1 some students from Year 9 to Year 11 sat the Australasian Computing Exam. Year 9 and 10 Information Technology is offered to all students as an option at year 9 and 10. During the two year course we introduce and train our students on a wide range of software packages. This gives them the confidence and skills to use IT in a variety of situations. We use a variety of software applications: - Microsoft Word

- Windows Movie Maker
At Year 10 we offer some Level One Unit Standards. Students aiming to be fully competent in the use of the computer will develop: - A high level of word processing skills
- The knowledge of a range of software applications
Year 11 This subject teaches students the skills to participate in an Information Technology society. It also teaches them valuable and essential skills that can be transferred to many other fields of learning. Course description: - Consolidation of text entry skills and use of word processing and spreadsheet programmes
- Development of language and numeracy skills
- Research and processing of information
- Planning, design and application of document layout and enhancement
- Manipulation of words, images and figures
The above skills are learnt through the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Draw/Paint Applications. It also teaches valuable and essential skills that can be transferred to many other fields of learning. Year 12 This subject at this level allows motivated students to become highly competent in the use of several software applications. The skills learnt are highly valued by employers and are also invaluable to any student undertaking further tertiary education where the majority of assignment work is required to be in printed format. Course Description: - Further consolidation of text entry skills and techniques
- Further development of "direct entry" composition skills
- Ability to identify and apply a wide range of software options
- Ability to apply student's own design specifications to documents.
The above skills are learnt through the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access applications. Year 13 This subject enables students to gain qualifications which will be recognised as part of Tertiary Institution Qualifications, while still at school. The skills learnt are high valued by employers and are also invaluable to any student undertaking further tertiary education where the majority of assignment work is required to be in printed format. Course Description: This course covers Word Processing, Desktop Publishing, Spreadsheets and Databases in a business situation. |
