Careers Focus Week

Careers Focus Week

areers Focus Week

The annual Careers Focus Week was held recently and this year the focus was on Technology careers, particularly Trades.

Over the week students heard from guest speakers talking about their careers in, plumbing, electrical supply, cooking, hair styling, automotive mechanical, building and many more. It was great to have so many former JHC students among the speakers and encouraging to see such rewarding careers that have resulted from taking Technology subjects while students here.

Our thanks to the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO), Southern Group Training, the Electrical Training Company (ETCO), Southern Institute of Technology, JK & WBE’s Engineering, Southland Farm Machinery, Venture Southland and the NZ Defence Force for coming in as speakers at the information evening for families also.

For the final part of the Focus Week field trips were run so that students could see some trades in action. Visits were made to Kaye’s Bakery, Back Country Cuisine, Stabi Craft and Fibreglass Innovations. Once again, our thanks to these employers for their time and enthusiasm as hosts to us.

Senior students who were inspired to pursue careers in the Trades should now consider applying for next year’s Gateway programme when applications open at the end of next term.
