Oamaru Intermediate School Exchange 2017

Oamaru Intermediate School Exchange 2017

Oamaru Intermediate School Exchange 2017

During week three, around a hundred students and adults from James Hargest Year 7 and 8 arrived at the Oamaru Intermediate hall and were welcomed with a passionate mihi whakatau from the Oamaru students.  Once billets and hosts were matched, students prepared for the next few days of competition between the two sides.  The Hargest students were aiming to bring the shield back home and continue our winning streak.

The initial evening of volleyball and basketball games resulted in Hargest taking out two of the events and taking the early lead.  We competed in a variety of sporting and cultural events; from rugby and netball, through to chess and swimming.  Oamaru showed strength in swimming and chess but fell short against our netball and hockey teams.  We were beaten convincingly on the rugby field but fought back admirably on the badminton court.

After participating in the successful exchange all students involved celebrated with an end of event social.  Our James Hargest students travelled home on Friday after we had a presentation assembly. The final exchange was a well fought close battle, resulting in an eight to six sport win to James Hargest.  We look forward to a rematch next year and another opportunity to keep the shield.
