Oamaru Intermediate School Exchange

Junior Campus

During week three, around a hundred students and adults from Oamaru Intermediate arrived at the Junior Campus Hall, and were welcomed with a passionate mihi whakatau from our students.  Once billets and hosts were matched, students prepared for the next few days of competition between the two sides.

The initial evening of volleyball and basketball games resulted in Oamaru taking an early lead, but over the following day the tables turned and James Hargest students rose to the challenge.  We competed in a variety of sporting and cultural events; from rugby, netball, through to chess and swimming.  Oamaru showed strength in swimming and chess but fell short against our netball and hockey teams.  We were beaten convincingly on the rugby field but fought back admirably on the football field.

After participating in the successful exchange all students involved celebrated with an end of event social.  Oamaru travelled home on Friday after we had a presentation assembly.  We look forward to a rematch next year and another opportunity to keep the shield.
