Thailand - what an amazing place! The rice paddies and mountains, the huge, gentle elephants, the warm weather, stunning temples, incredible food and wonderful, kind and generous people. And the shopping! Such fun learning to barter for goods. Eight of us travelled together through Thailand in January - five Hargest girls, a dad, Chris and Carolyn Davies (CD Leadership (NZ) Ltd) and myself, Ms Chilton-Smith. There were so many highlights; the two main ones being the Mae Kok Foundation in the hill country, Chiang Rai, where we worked, played and lived for three days, taking part in the lives of the children who are taken care of there. We also brought them donations of clothing books and stationery. The other highlight was living with host families of students from Princess Royal College in Chiang Mai, who shared their homes and culture with us. They were all so welcoming. We then spent a few days in Bankok which had a very exciting buzz about it and lots of people. This was a highly educational trip; being immersed in another culture and learning about Thailand, from where a large number of our International Students come, and it was a lot of fun. Every day we spent in Thailand was hugely interesting and a delight.
