JHC students Hamish Beadle and Tom Sexton, along with three other Southland athletes, have been named in the nationwide talent development programme, a programme funded by Sport New Zealand and High Performance Sport New Zealand and designed to better prepare athletes to enter the high performance sporting environment.
The athletes will receive support in mental skills, athlete life, sports psychology, nutrition and strength and conditioning, as well as a bundle of services specifically tailored to them, all delivered locally by Academy Southland providers.
Tom Sexton and Hamish Beadle both represented New Zealand at the recent international track series in Adelaide, Australia, with Tom winning the Points Race and getting second in the Scratch Race and Team Pursuit. Hamish was 3rd in the Team Sprint and 5th in the Keirin.
Tom, Hamish and Samuel Miller have been selected in the New Zealand Track Team for the Oceania Track Champs to be held in October this year.
