Treasury Challenge National Winners – Again!

A team of four Year 13 Economics students were again given the opportunity to participate in this academic challenge set by The Treasury.

In election year, The Treasury prepares a “Briefing to the Incoming Minister of Finance” following the general election.  This year’s challenge was for the students to prepare such a briefing outlining the state of the economy and challenges and opportunities for the incoming government, including suggested policies

After many hours of work, the team was selected for the national finals based on their written submission. They then travelled to Wellington where they delivered an oral presentation before a panel of judges comprising two Economics professors from Victoria University and two Treasury analysts. After fielding questions from the judging panel, Hargest was judged the winner. Their prize involves another trip to Wellington to present their proposal again and to meet the Finance Minister. They will also receive an $800 Dick Smiths voucher and a $2000 scholarship to Victoria University.

James Hargest has now won this competition every year since its inception three years ago!
