IMG-2942

The South Island Secondary Schools Softball tournament was held in sunny Alexandra during tournament week. The results of the round-robin were:

Southland Boys: 5-8

Ashburton College: 11-12

Riccarton High: 7-4

Dunstan College: 12-15

Shirley Boys: 11-15

Taieri College: 12-7

Burnside High: 23-1

Otago Boys: 1-8

We ended the round-robin stage in 5th place and faced Southland Boys again in the 4v5 playoff game. We went down again 9-19 ending up in a very creditable 5th place. We were the top-placed co-ed team (teams including both boys and girls) and it was awesome to see everyone contributing to the team effort.

Huge thanks to our excellent coaches, Leigh Wallace and Kerry Russell.

The James Hargest College Senior team came back strongly to take 2nd place in the Southland Secondary School’s Softball Tournament. After going down in the first game of the day to a strong Southland Boys High team, the Hargest team bounced back to win their next three games. The final scores were:
 JHC 3 - SBHS Red 13
JHC 27 - Verdon Mixed 3

JHC 12 - SGHS 2

Special mention goes to the dynamic duo of Kate Russell and Abby Wallace, the pitcher-catcher combo in all three wins and the consistent strong hitting of Mitchell Tweedie and Tim Docherty. Thanks to Dave Steel and Leigh Wallace for their coaching on the day.
