This year’s Major Production debuted its Term 1 timeslot, in the form of Popstars: The 90’s Musical. It was a musical blast from the past that guaranteed audiences tapped their toes and sang along to the irresistible pop tunes from the 90’s.
It was an action-packed showcase of the many talented students at our kura. The creative team gives their sincerest thanks to the performers involved, who worked hard all term to get this show up and moving. We have had an absolutely fabulous time singing, dancing, and acting together every week. This show would not be possible without the team of talented and dedicated performers who have topped the charts with this celebration of all things 90s.
This year we welcomed some new members of our creative team:
The multitalented Whaea Sally Bodkin-Allen joined us as Musical Director. She took up the challenge in her new role here at JHC and utilised her phenomenal musical knowledge to benefit our ākonga. Her enthusiasm and pure joy in singing was evident throughout all rehearsals from the beginning, and our cast thrived under her guidance.
Ms Annie Haveron also joined the team as Choreographer. This show has been a trial by fire for her with fifteen dance numbers requiring her expertise and advice. All of which she handled with ease and cheeky humour.
This show would be impossible to put on without the support of our school and wider community. Many staff members gave time and effort into making our performers shine. Special mention to theatre extraordinaire, Mrs Catherine Fabre and costume guru, Ms Bex Pilley, who are integral to the smooth running of our production. And to Ms Pip Smith, whose knowledge of stagecraft and backstage set up was integral to the magic that happened on stage.
Our 2025 Major Production of Popstars: The 90’s Musical was a POP-star studded sensation that allowed us to get our beats in sync and dance the night away in double denim style.
