This year is the first year that Invercargill has run a Beach Volleyball competition. JHC has three teams entered in this competition. They play in all weather. The competition is going well and there may be the opportunity for more teams to be involved later in the year with the new season.
This has been another good year for Volleyball at Hargest with twenty teams competing across the Social and Competitive leagues for the Term 1 Southland competition. It has been great to see all the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of our players. There were a number of new players who decided to give Volleyball a go, which is great for the continued growth of the sport in the school. All teams performed well and with enthusiasm and positivity. The support offered on the side-line was so encouraging. Unfortunately Lockdown forced a short season.
The South Island Junior Volleyball Championships this year are being held in Invercargill in November. We have two teams entering this competition. Special thanks must go to Miss Caroline Raynes and Mr Matt Sigurdsson who are giving up their time to coach these teams. The girls are very excited and are working hard during their weekly trainings.
This year, with a focus on well-being and a balanced life, the staff have entered two teams in the adult competition. While one team is more competitive than the other, much fun and enjoyment has been had by all involved.
Our student’s second season is starting as this report is written. Thanks must go out to all the coaches and managers. It is great to be able to have a staff member supporting each team. The knowledge, skill, enthusiasm and support the staff are able to pass on to their players is invaluable. Thanks must also go out to the continued parent support we have each year.
