Year 8 Camps
Deep Cove camp in Doubtful Sound is an amazing adventure full of challenges and opportunities. Our Year 8 students spent four days and three nights in this beautiful part of New Zealand. We travelled by bus to Manapouri, went by boat across the lake to West Arm, then by bus again to get to Deep Cove. Students quickly discovered how remote Deep Cove was due to the lack of cell phone reception! The main activities included tramping, boating, fishing and bonding with new classmates. This time was invaluable for the students as they developed experience and personal abilities in a new and exciting environment. It also helped establish positive relationships between the homeroom classes. Hanging Valley lived up to its reputation as the toughest challenge. Ample amount of insect repellent was used to keep the sand-flies at bay! Deep Cove camp is very popular with parents (many remember going when they were in Year 8!) and once again, we were well supported with excellent parent and whanau help. All students returned home tired, but full of memories to share about their wonderful adventure.
