Competition details The local Interschool Badminton Competition is a 6 week competition that students play in teams of three. Each student will play singles and two doubles against teams from other Invercargill schools. Racquets are provided if your child doesn’t have one.

Students in Years 9 – 13 can enter to play in either the Monday or Tuesday competition.

Each competition runs for one term, based at the Surrey Park Badminton Hall.

Teams enter the SSS Badminton Championships every year.

When they are strong enough teams are also entered in the  the SISS Competition each year.
Cost  $30.00 for the weekly competition.

BADMINTON TERM 2

START DATE: Thursday 7 May, 2026

VENUE:  Badminton Southland Hall

The Year 7 & 8 Schools’ Badminton competition is played at the Southland Badminton hall on Thursdays from 4pm until 5:15pm.

The competition will run for 6 weeks starting on Thursday 7 May, 2026

The cost for participating in this competition is $35.

Students will wear their James Hargest College sports uniform during competition games (please note:

non-marking footwear is required)

Badminton racquets can be borrowed from Badminton Southland at the venue on Thursday afternoons.

  • 3 players per team – Format is 3 games of singles and 2 games of doubles for each player
  • The competition will accommodate a maximum of 20 teams per competition day.  If necessary, a trial will be held to select the school teams and determine seedings.

Badminton Southland requires your child’s date of birth and contact details for their registration purposes. By submitting the permission slip indicates you give permission for these details to be provided to Badminton Southland.
