June is a busy time for the music department at James Hargest College with lots of different musical events happening. Things kick off with the Southland District Chamber Music Contest on Thursday June 5th at Repertory House, starting at 6:30pm. There are several groups entered with ākonga from Hēmi Hākena. Thanks to Trinity Waddell, our itinerant percussion tutor, our percussionists are very well represented. Then on Friday 13th June the Civic Theatre will host the Southland Rockquest finals. The band Brazen Fist is representing Hēmi Hākena and are a part of a line up of 18 bands and solo and duo artists. Rockquest kicks off at 7pm.
The Big Sing Southland Regional Final is being held on Tuesday 17 June in First Church, and begins at 7pm. This year we are thrilled to have two choirs representing our kura. Ancora, the all comers choir which is taken by Whaea Sally, and Cantabella, a smaller auditioned chamber choir led by Mr Michael Forde. We wish all our performers well across these three events.
