On the 12-15th of March seven JHC Year 10 students attended a Science Wānanga at the Murihiku Marae put on in partnership with the Waihōpai Rūnaka and the University of Otago. Students from each of the schools in Invercargill attended and participated in a variety of activities. They first checked the health of the Waihōpai awa by looking at the invertebrates, tuna (freshwater eels) and water clarity. Some of the other activities were bottle rocket launches, hydrogen fueled cars and making ice cream with liquid nitrogen. There were games and group building activities in te reo Māori. All of our students did us proud, especially Charlotte White who won a special prize for contribution and engagement.
