| Performance details | Dates vary annually. Regional finals in Term 2 usually in the month of June and held at the Civic Theatre, National Finals in Term 3.
Rockquest: New Zealand’s nationwide, live, original music, youth event giving young musicians the opportunity to perform live in a professional setting, in venues from Northland to Southland. Smokefreerockquest aims to motivate young musicians to strive for success, to realise the opportunities available in music careers, and to encourage their peers to support original New Zealand Music. Tangata Beats: Smokefree Tangata Beats is a live, original music, nationwide, youth event that recognises and reflects the unique cultural identity of Aotearoa New Zealand and the South Pacific. The event started in 1994 as the Urban Beats Award within Smokefreerockquest. The event has steadily built over the years into a competition in its own right, and was originally called Smokefree Pacifica Beats. It was renamed as Smokefree Tangata Beats for 2018 to be more inclusive. Smokefree Tangata Beats aims to motivate young musicians to prove their ability with cultural relevance and realise the heights they can reach in their music careers, and to encourage their peers to support 100% original Aotearoa Kiwi music. |

| Other requirements i.e equipment | Open to original songs only. Entry into these competitions is supported by the original songwriting and performance elements of the Music curriculum, however, you don’t have to be taking Music as a subject in order to enter. |
