| Terms involved | All year. Cantabella is an auditioned female voice choir. Auditions are held at the beginning of Term 1 each year. |
| Performance details | Big Sing Regional Contest in mid-June (Term 2).
If selected, this is followed by South Island Regional Contest – Cadenza, or National Finale, both in mid-August (Term 3). The Big Sing (TBS) is a highly successful, national group-singing competition for secondary school students. Secondary Schools’ Choral Festivals began in 1988 as a development of the vocal section of the Westpac Schools’ Chamber Music Contest. From being a very small part of that contest, The Big Sing has grown into New Zealand’s largest choral event and is a major highlight of the secondary school music calendar. Each year, close to 10,000 young people from over 250 schools take part in regional festivals nationwide, and the number continues to grow. This makes TBS one of the largest competitive events in the country. |
| Cost | $20 choir subs cost (note that this is only paid once per choir, so if you are in two choirs you still only pay $20). There are no further costs unless selected for Cadenza or National Finale. Costs vary for these festivals depending on the location of the contest. |
| Other requirements i.e equipment | Rehearsals commitment is every Wednesday after school 3.30 pm – 5.00 pm. |
